Born and raised in Sumrall, Mississippi, with more than 30 years experience in financial markets, Mr. Perry Parker is committed to using his business background to help Mississippians find economic opportunity and build strong local communities. That is why Mr. Parker is running for Public Service Commissioner in the Southern District, as this background prepares him to bring stability and accountability to the office.
Perry ran in the 2018 Republican Primary to represent Mississippi’s 3rd U.S. Congressional District. Running on a platform that “For Mississippi to do better, it needed to do something different,” Perry focused on the challenges facing rural communities, the agricultural industry, and young adults seeking to build prosperous lives in the Magnolia State. Although Perry was not elected, he has stayed involved in Mississippi public life. He conducts interviews with small business owners for an online video series called “Entrepreneurs in Mississippi,” frequently contributes op-eds for the Clarion-Ledger and other Mississippi newspapers, and serves on the board of the Covington County Boys and Girls Club.
Prior to running for office, Perry, along with his brother Ted, was a founding director of The First, A National Banking Association, headquartered in Hattiesburg. The business was started with a $5,000 personal investment in 1994, but now has more than 500 employees and over $3 billion in assets. Perry also holds large investments in cattle, aquaculture, and row crop farming in both Mississippi and the American Southwest.
Prior to running for office, Perry was head of market risk and led the investment team at the hedge fund One River Asset Management. This followed Perry’s tenure as a founding partner and senior portfolio manager for Grant Capital Partners, a global macro hedge fund. Perry began his career at Goldman Sachs as a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange before moving to both New York and London in various roles. In 1996, he joined Deutsche Bank and became Global Head of Spot FX Trading and later, Global Head of Non-Franchise Trading. He holds an MBA (finance) from the University of Chicago, a B.S., cum laude, from the University of Southern Mississippi, and an A.A.S. from Pearl River Junior College.
Perry and his wife Eileen have been married for nearly 30 years and have two sons, Beau and Harry. Beau graduated the University of Mississippi in 2017 and works in finance in Chicago. Harry is a 2018 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and works in finance in London. Perry and Eileen live on their farm in Covington County outside of Seminary MS.
